Dear Evergreen Garden Club Members,
Happy Labor Day and welcome to Evergreen’s 70th year as an organization! We ended last year on such a nice high note with our 70th anniversary luncheon at Jean Barquin’s lovely home. Many thanks to Jane Dana for recognizing and heading up our anniversary celebration, which continues this fall.
While the rest of us have been enjoying the summer, Doris Dixon, our First Vice President, has been hard at work since June to plan a year filled with wonderful programs and meetings - all focused on learning, supporting, and preserving gardens and nature. The schedule of programs for this year is attached. Please mark your calendars now. RSVPs for all meetings should be sent to Donna Roberts at wrobe22481@gmail.com.
And please note that our first meeting, a trip to Oak Hill Cemetery in Georgetown, including a visit to the Van Ness Mausoleum, followed by a dutch treat lunch, is coming right up -- September 19th. Please RSVP for that ASAP and be sure to let Donna know whether you are also planning to stay for lunch.
I am looking forward to a full schedule of in-person meetings this year (except for our January Zoom meeting about members’ gardens). As we have the last couple of years, we will pivot to Zoom if needed, but fervently hope that it will not be necessary. Reminder that Active members are required to attend 3 meetings and strongly encouraged to attend at least 4 meetings each year. We hope to have a good turnout each month for our interesting speakers.
Our membership roster is attached. We have one opening for a new member, so please give some thought to nominating candidates this fall. Nominations should be sent to our Membership Chair Xenia Wilkinson (xeniavw@aol.com) by October 1.
Susie Taylor, our Treasurer, will be sending a dues invoice in a separate email. Dues are $150 and are payable before October 31. (Do it now before you forget!)
All of this information (including a new Directory!) will be provided in hard copy by the end of September. It is also posted on our website. http://evergreen.org. The password for the Members Only section is: Forevergreen.
Looking forward to a wonderful year of learning with all of you.
Warmly,
Winkie Crigler
