OUR HISTORY

Beginnings
In the spring of 1953, Mrs. Henry Allen, Mrs. Robert Boorman, Mrs. Cabell Maddux, Mrs. Bernard Malloy and Mrs. Stuart Martin drew up a constitution and elected members to join them in the creation of the Evergreen Garden Club, a charitable and educational organization. The club is designed to support civic and philanthropic activities in the Washington Area and draws members from suburban Maryland, Northern Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Members must demonstrate an interest in learning more about horticulture and the practice of sustainable gardening.
National Capital Area Garden Club
The Evergreen Garden Club is a member of the National Capital Area Garden Club (NGAGC). NCAGC provides education about environmental issues and garden and floral design to its seventy member clubs. In 2018, NCAGC awarded Evergreen a Philanthropy Award. The NCAGC is a regional organization of the National Garden Clubs, INC. Membership in the National and Regional organizations provide our members with the ability to participate in local, regional and national programs.

What We Do
"If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden." - Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden

Evergreen Garden Club organizes monthly programs fostering a sense of community and passion for gardening among our members. Our programs include garden and farm tours, workshops, and lectures. We also contribute to the restoration and upkeep of local gardens, including work days at our plot at the Tregaron Conservancy. Each year the membership selects projects to support in the local community. Additionally, we offer gardening resources to support enthusiasts of all skill levels. Learn more about our programs here.
