“March is the month of expectation”
~Emily Dickinson
Dear Evergreen Garden Club Members,
March is a real transition month. Whatever the weather does, Spring cannot be denied!
April is on the horizon and with it our trip to Bunny Mellon’s beautiful estate Oak Springs and gardens in Upperville. Please respond to Survey Monkey sent by Doris Roberts on attendance, carpool rides etc. Look for it this week in email. In the March business meeting, we will begin discussing commemoration of our 75thanniversary.
Of Interest to Our Members
The annual Washington Daffodil Society Show is April 11-12. It is free to the public. Alexandria Scottish Rite, 1430 West Braddock Road, Alexandria, Virginia 22302.
Program Meeting: Tuesday, March 17, 2026, 10:00am
“Honey Bees – Show me the honey”
Presenter: Christopher Lewis, Beekeeper and Certified Professional Horticulturist
Location: Home of Doris Dixon, hospitality: Fran Usher & Rosa Wallach
3809 East West Highway, Chevy Chase, Maryland
We will sample honey from the local hives of our presenter longtime beekeeper, Chris Lewis, and learn about landscaping, pollination and how honey bees help maintain the balance in nature. Honey bees are not native to North America but since Colonists brought them from Europe beginning in the 1620s as a source of wax and sugar, these efficient pollinators have been integral to our environment.

PARKING AND DIRECTIONS FOR DORIS’ HOME
Doris’s home is at 3809 East West Highway, three houses east of the Connecticut Avenue intersection.
Coming north on Connecticut Avenue turn right onto East West Highway and immediately turn left into the u shaped driveway at 3807 (Doris’s neighbor’s side). This is on the north side of East West Highway. You can park on her neighbor’s side or pull around to park on Doris’s side. If you park in the driveway, please, pull up close to the grass leaving space for cars to get around you. And park close together to leave room for other cars.
From the beltway come south on Connecticut Avenue and turn left onto East West Highway, and then left into the driveway entrance at 3807.
Doris’s house is on the left-hand side, blue door with a floral wreath on the front door.
Parking is also available on Glendale, which is the first street on the left past Doris’ house. It is approximately a 100 foot walk.
