2022-2023 Evergreen Garden Club Programs

 

 

Tuesday, September 20, 2022,10:00 am

Self-Guided Tour of United States National Arboretum, and Business Meeting

Location: 3501 New York Ave NE, Washington, DC 20002. 

Description: Members will gather at the Washington Youth Garden at 10:00 AM for a guided tour of the Youth Garden by Brianne Studer, Director of Programs, Friends of the National Arboretum. For members who wish to bring a picnic lunch and spend more time visiting the Arboretum, there is a pavilion with tables and seating nearby.

City Blossoms

Location: Member’s Home

Description: Rafael Woldeab, Executive Director of City Blossoms, will speak to Evergreen members about how City Blossoms applies their unique brand of gardens, science, art, healthy living, and community building in neighborhoods where kids, their families, and neighbors may not otherwise have access to green spaces, so they “blossom."

Volunteer Workday at Tregaron Conservancy – Fall Clean-up

Location: Klingle Road Entrance, 3031 Klingle Road, NW, Washington, DC 

Description: Volunteers will gather for a socially distanced clean-up morning at the EGC garden within the beautiful and historic landscape of the 13-acre Tregaron Conservancy. A member of the Tregaron team will join the volunteers to share information about new plants and guide our efforts.

Fall Flower Arrangement Workshop

Location: Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church

Description: Ami Wilbur, floral and event décor designer at Hillwood, Estate, Museum and Gardens, will lead an in-person, Fall Flower Arrangement workshop for members to create and take home their own beautiful arrangements.

Refreshing Your Landscape

Location: Zoom

Description: Zoom Panel Discussion from Evergreen Garden Club members Winkie Crigler, Doris Dixon and Susie Taylor, with pictures, on their own experiences refreshing their landscapes, each with a particular challenge, such as a new look for a front or back garden, or a new house without landscaping, as well as other needs and desires for a fresh look.

Description: Shari Wilson of Nuts for Natives will speak to the members of the Evergreen Garden Club about native plants and which plants to add to our gardens to provide food and nectar for local pollinators and birds.

Pollinator and Bird Friendly Plants for your Garden

Location: Member’s Home

Description: Jeanne Braha, Executive Director of the Rock Creek Conservancy, will speak to the Evergreen Garden Club on how to incorporate native, pollinator and bird friendly plants into our landscapes as well as ridding our gardens of invasive species, such as English ivy.

Guided Tour of Meadowlark Botanical Gardens 

Location: 750 Meadowlark Gardens Ct, Vienna, VA 22182 

Description: Members will take a guided tour of Meadowlark Botanical Gardens, a botanical garden with large ornamental and native plant collections. Members may bring a picnic lunch.

Description: Volunteers will gather for a morning of socially distanced spring planting at the EGC Garden Plot with guidance from Tregaron Conservancy.

Annual Meeting and Evergreen Garden Club 70th Anniversary Luncheon

Location: Home of Jean Barquin

Description: Members will socialize and enjoy a festive lunch.
